After receiving more than 10,000 emails, tweets and messages urging Shopify to drop the online store of Breitbart News, CEO Tobias Lütke published a blog post defending the decision to keep hosting it on free-speech grounds. Fortune described Breitbart as a far-right website; TechCrunch described it as a right-wing publication that regularly publishes racist and sexist headlines and content.

Response: Lütke argued that applying a moral lens to which stores operate on Shopify would amount to censorship, calling commerce "a powerful, underestimated form of expression"; a spokesperson said Shopify is a "neutral platform".
